About Paul Swan.

With the opening of a ‘Kodak Express 1 Hour Photo’ lab, black and white darkroom, and portrait studio at Nobby Beach Qld, near Magic Mountain, in 1988, Paul established Swan Photographics.
Owning a lab provided a very solid grounding in colour theory, film, and the ‘other side’ of photography - processing and printing. Paul also realised how difficult it was for people to take great photos - even with expensive SLR cameras. So he put together some short photography
courses and conducted them after hours in his studio.
Paul saw a need for a TAFE course to follow the highly successful ‘basics’ course conducted by Len Reynolds, and he approached Gold Coast TAFE with the idea of a ‘Beyond the Basics’ photography course. The rest is history, with this course being taught by Paul for 17 years. Another three courses were also written and delivered by Paul. During this time, Paul has helped over 1500 people receive the right advice on how to use their camera,
understand the technical aspects of light, and take better photos.
With a Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training, and his vast experience, Paul also became the Northern NSW and Qld Training Manager for The National Photo Training College. He was responsible for the delivery of training as far afield as Mt Isa, Cairns, Tamworth, Ballina and everywhere in between, including Brisbane, Gold Goast, Hervey Bay, Townsville, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Chinchilla, and Beaudesert. He
conducted training and assessment in the PRIT (Photographic Retail Industry Traineeship) II and III in compliance with the DET.
During this time Paul also found time to be the official photographer for "Shooters' Saloon Bar on the Gold Coast over an 11 year period, photographing heats and finals for Miss Indy, Miss Shooters, Miss University, Hawaiian Tropic and numerous other quests.
